Story: Garth Ennis Art: John McCrea and Garry Leach
Publisher: DC
Plot: Continuation of Closing time plot thread sees Tommy gets increasingly cosy with Scully look-alike Kathryn as apparent certain death beckons.
Garth Ennis is fast becoming a legendary figure in comic book circles, certainly he's one of the best modern comic writers and what is more, his creative juices aren't showing any signs of drying up.
It seems that he is only capable of producing excellent work and Hitman is yet more evidence of that. Ennis' real talent lies in creating characters who you can relate to and care about and Tommy is no exception. Several years in and Tommy is still an amiable and believable character.
As regards this specific issue, this is the third part of a lengthy story called Closing Time. The story is quite well named, as closure does seem to be a running theme throughout, with Tommy ending a certain relationship in this issue. In addition, this particular issue features a couple of assassination attempts, a continuation of Truman's sinister plot to create superhumans and Tommy getting cosy with FBI woman Kathryn.
The artwork is up to the usual standard but then McCrea and Leach's art has been consistently superb throughout the entire Hitman run. There are no problems with clarity that you sometimes get with other comics and this just makes Hitman all the more readable.
Summing up, this is fine issue of Hitman, as are they all. Also, Hitman is usually very easy to get into; however, as it's in the middle of a plot thread, new readers may wish to procure issues 53 and 54 as well, if you can get them, so you know what is going on.
Hitman is highly recommended for all, it's a truly excellent work and it features a very rare thing in comics. A superhuman who is actually likable.
