Spooky: A Warren Fanzine #3

A book review article by: Jason Sacks
Jim Warren published some of the most interesting comics of the 1960s and '70s, and there's a small revival of fan appreciation around them. Last year The Warren Companion, a sumptuous softcover book celebrating the line, was published by TwoMorrows (for a review of the book, see here: http://www.silverbulletcomicbooks.com/reviews/107834622044831.htm). And now there's a nice ongoing fanzine celebrating the mags as well.

Spooky is a wonderful informal digest-sized zine that features some gorgeous color art and some wonderful fannish articles and interviews on Warren Mags and creators. The highlight of the issue for me were reproductions of some stills from an abortive Vampirella cartoon. From the looks of things, the film would have looked attractive, and been generally true to the comic. Other fine features include an interview with writers Kevin Pagan and Al
Hewetson, and articles on several outstanding Warren stories.

I'd love some more beefy articles, but overall the zine is a real treat, and at $3 per issue plus postage it's a terrific bargain. Full information on the zine is available at http://www.spookyfanzine.com/. If you're interested in Warren Mags at all, this is really worth checking out.
