This is the final issue of Super Human Resources and it’s only appropriate that it end with an act of heroics, of sorts. Tim, our everyman hero with no powers other than common sense and Roger (or Dark Roger as he likes to be called), put the kibosh on Gordon from Corporate’s plans to shut down SCI. Tim and Dark Roger also rip open a portal to the future, and Future Tim comes through and delivers the message that with the closing of SCI things turn out for the better. But Present Tim is the hero and has to make a sacrifice for SCI and his friends.
I absolutely love Ken Marcus’s wit and the jabs he takes at the office world. Some of the sarcastic highlights are Gordon outsourcing the hero roles to kids from India and many of the heroes looking for new jobs. Zombor, as it turns out, is the only one working at SCI who is qualified to work in the normal world, but is over-qualified for the position of “psychotic strongman.” The evil copy machine finally rallies his troops and faces off against the humans in the office and in a backwards way the copy machine sort of helps save the day. I have to say that even though this wasn’t the strongest issue in the series, it still had it funny parts and it’s still a good closing issue. Unlike some other mini-series where the ending is rushed or parts seem to be missing, none of that is a problem in the last issue of Super Human Recourses. It was well plotted and put together. As for this not being the strongest issue, there really isn’t one thing that stands out as dragging it down, just that the other issues were better. Sort of like I Love Lucy all the episodes were great, but there were some that were better than others.
This was one of the best comics overall as a series that I’ve read this year. I can’t stop recommending this to everyone I work with who enjoys comics. Like I said in my review of the first issue, it’s the comic version of Office Space, and it’s especially funny if you spend your days in a cubicle. If you work in an office setting you can totally relate to the crazy copier trying to kill you, or the slightly crazy guy who you’re pretty sure will some day burn the place to the ground. If you haven’t been following the series, it shouldn’t be too late to find the past three issues. Or, if we’re lucky, a TPB will be released in the near future.
