"Y'know, being turned into my base chemical components by an ancient Egyptian artifact should have prepared me for days like this." – Metamorpho
Metamorpho lives! Trapped on a space station populated by "pod people," Metamorpho calls for help. Short a bat moon rocket, Batman sends the Outsiders to steal a rocket in Mongolia. Things don't turn out as planned and most of the team is captured. Now Batman needs to rescue the rescue team.
I'm really enjoying this relaunch of the Outsiders. It is jammed packed with action and intrigue. I feel like I'm reading the superhero equivalent of Mission Impossible. The artwork works well with the great pacing and dialogue.
I don't know what the OMAC, REMAC, a weird space station and a corporate conspiracy by Jardine Limited are all about, but I do know that I'm hooked enough to stick around to find out.
Dixon's take on Batman, Metamorpho and Green Arrow is perfect. Batman is rightly portrayed as equal parts tactician, detective and leader. Green Arrow has been a great addition as the field leader. Metamorpho hasn't been written this well since Winick's days on the Outsiders.
An odd element is the constant changes in the team. I really enjoyed the "cameo" appearances of characters like Martian Manhunter, Catwoman and the Dibnys. I already miss the Dibnys and hope they make another appearance soon. These team roster changes make it a little hard to develop team chemistry, but it does keep us on our toes.
Final Word: This is an excellent relaunch that I highly recommend. I didn't expect much from this series when I first heard about it, but it has successfully completed its mission in keeping me hooked.
