"One mission and the Defenders are a bust?! That's a new record, even for me!" - Nighthawk

It's a wild and crazy ride of action, humor and chaos. I'm unsure what to think of this mini-series, but I do know that it is anything but predictable.

The Defenders, New Jersey's newest protectors courtesy of the Initiative, did not have a good first mission (to put it mildly). Their fight with the Sons of the Serpent took a nasty turn when a giant Quetzalcoatl pops up. Collateral damage skyrockets and Caesar's is destroyed (oops). Mr. Trump isn't going to be happy.

Tony Stark closes down the team, but Nighthawk and She-Hulk aren't going to accept that as they rush off to save the last surviving member of the SHIELD team captured by the Sons of the Serpent.

Meanwhile, an old enemy, Yandroth, is lurking about plotting something. Plus, something is going on with Son of Satan and Krang.

Casey and Giffen bring us a comedic take on the Defenders, but don’t take it as far as the 2005 Giffen/DeMatteis/Maguire Defenders mini-series. I like how Nighthawk and She-Hulk are written. Blazing Skull is hit and miss and I don't know if they really know how to write Colossus.

I have no idea where this story is heading, which is a good thing, I think. The story is so odd that I'm worried about where it is going, but I'm cautiously optimistic because of the creative team. There is some nice '70s type of stuff here, especially at the end. You'll either love it or hate it.

Final Word: Last Defenders is a tough book to get a handle on. By the time the mini-series is over you'll either love it or hate it. Right now I'm enjoying the ride, but I have no idea where it stops.
