Writer: Mike Baron
Artists: Mel Rubi & Nick Runge
Publisher: Image Comics
This bookís greatest flaw is its utterly nondescript blandness. Itís well put together, with strong art (albeit with inappropriate colouring) and competent writing free of any gratuitous narrative errors or bad characterisation. But thereís a generic and unexciting air to everything that nonetheless makes the book a forgettable read. Perhaps itís because I havenít read the earlier issues, and as such, have no inherent connection to the plot or characters, but I just couldnít engage with this comic at all, and promptly forgot about it the moment I put it down. Even the title completely slipped my mind.
When I encounter so many very badly written or badly drawn comics, it seems churlish to complain about one that is anything but badly done. But I have to be honest, and for all its obvious quality, Detonatorís blandness prevents it being an enjoyable read.
