Legion Of Super-Heroes #1
Publisher: DC
Writer: Mark Waid
Artist: Barry Kitson
Price: $ 2.95 US, $ 4.50 Can
Comments: You will be blown away by the artwork. The first few pages show us heroes from the past. The battle scene of the Romans is violent and realistic.
A lot of your favorites are back. It’s nice to see them in action. Cosmic Boy makes a great team leader. Its inspiring to watch the LSH go into action knowing they are doing what’s right for the people. The Legion are here because of the people. They also just enjoy being heroes going out and helping people in need.
This series looks as if it will have some of the best qualities from the original series. A variety of members and powers. Youthful exuberance. A team that works as a team. This series is off to a great start.
Green Lantern: Rebirth #3
Publisher: DC
Writer: Geoff Johns
Penciler: Ethan Van SCiver
Inker: Prentis Rollins
Price: $ 2.95 US, $ 4.50 Can
Comments: Kylie is able to resist the influence of whatever has taken over Kilowog, John and Guy. His flaw of knowing fear protects him since it can't sneak up on him.
Well now it turns out the Guardians of the Universe's Central Battery collects willpower from every living being. It turns out the yellow impurity is really Parallax who is a yellow entity made of living fear imprisoned by the Guardians in the Battery.
Parallax used Hal's ring to take over his mind at his weakest moment. So Parallax has remained in Hal influencing and controlling him. Even the Spectre is not powerful enough to stop it. Parallax takes over the Spectre and Hal's spirit.
The full page spread showing Parallax after taking control of the Spectre and Hal's spirit's leaves no doubt as to the power and evil of this ancient creature.
And as if things are not bad enough Sinestro shows up. It was he who freed Parallax from the Battery.
DC has come up with a workable story to absolve Hal of all the killings.
It will be great to have the Greatest Green Lantern of them all back.
Superman: Strength #1
Publisher: DC
Writer: Scott McCloud
Penciler: Aluir Amancio
Inker: Terry Austin
Price: $ 5.95 US, $ 9.25 Can
Comments: Alex Ross does the cover so you know its a work of art. The art throughout is good, Superman's chest is bog. Lois is drawn sultry. She isn't shown as the hard edged reporter she is. Her latest scoop busting a hotdog vendor for short changing customers well that seems kind of small time for her.
This crook Fido sets up a lot of distractions to keep Superman away as he steals some gloves. The gloves can open a portal to teleport you anywhere on Earth. He actually comes up with a cool idea to use it against Superman. He closes the portal just as Superman's head goes through. It cuts his head off. The energy seals the wounds so he’s still alive and functioning just as two separate pieces. Its kind of cute as the thieves put his head in a gold fish bowl.
JLA #110
Publisher: DC
Writer: Kurt Busiek
Penciler: Ron Garney
Inker: Dan Green
Price: $ 2.25 US, $ 3.50 Can
Comments: Its strange watching Power Ring and Johnny Quick play super-hero. They get to fight super villains who almost beat them. Its different fighting people that are not afraid of you.
The CSA seem surprised by the hero worship the JLA get. They are not used to it. Their powers are similar. But their outlook on life is completely different. When you see Ultraman fry 219 people just because they annoyed him you know he is pure evil. The CSA are not affected by acts of kindness or charity. They are sadistic, evil incarnate. As you see Ultraman standing among the skeletons of the slain the look on his face his posture all make it clear what kind of a man he is.
When the CSA and JLA meet it will be a truly titanic battle of good vs evil.
X-23 #1
Publisher: Marvel
Writers: Craig Kyle & Christipher Yost
Penciler: Billy Sibal
Inker: Jon Sibal
Price: $ 2.99 US, $ 4.25 Can
Comments: X-23 is born. We get a complete run down on her origin. She was created as a weapon but will she be one.
The doctors working to create her wanted another Wolverine. They used his DNA. Only the Y chromosome was damaged so they made a female. For some reason even as a baby she only has two claws per hand not three.
The story builds up nicely. The flashback showing a feral Wolverine shows us what we can expect from X-23. They say the female is the deadlier of the species we'll find out.
The cover showing the teenager X-23 is beautiful. She looks dangerous and cute in a deadly sort of way.
Wolverine #23
Publisher: Marvel
Writer: Mark Millar
Penciler: John Romita Jr.
Inker: Klaus Janson
Price: $ 2.25 US, $ 3.25 Can
Comments: Elektra is a thing of beauty as the Hand strikes. She moves with confidence and fluidity. She is drawn beautiful semi-naked, bare foot in the snow, unarmed against dozens of Hand ninjas they didn't stand a chance.
Daredevil may have enhanced senses but Wolverine still snuck up on him. S.H.I.E.L.D. thinks he’s after the big guns. But he’s not.
The leader of the villains Von Strucker, his wife and Gorgon all seem like pitiful creatures. A cheating wife, a lackey henchman and a wimp for a leader in Von Strucker.
Elektra is drawn with such grace and beauty like a panther ready to spring.
