BPRD: The Dead #1

Writers: Mike Mignola & John Arcudi
Artists: Guy Davis, Dave Stewart(c)
Publisher: Dark Horse

::::Sigh::::I knew this would happen. John Arcudi jumps aboard BPRD, and he sinks the ship.

Arcudi's characterization for the BPRD cast makes the reader clench her teeth and wince in pain. Liz drops twenty points of intellect and maturity. She reminds the reader of a nauseating teenager who believes Britney Spears is the greatest musical talent on the planet.

Selma Blair didn't look like Liz in the Hellboy movie and was younger than the way Liz seemed to be portrayed, but the actress conveyed the gravity that was necessary to make the audience believe she was Liz Sherman. Arcudi's Liz is a moron. This at least makes her smarter than Arcudi's Roger the Homunculus.

Arcudi introduces an unnecessary and annoying cast-member. He takes over the BPRD Taskforce as Abe tracks down his origins--the only thing to recommend in the book. Why couldn't Liz take over the team in Abe's absence? This makes no sense.

Does Arcudi know that BPRD and Hellboy are supposed to be dramas? Certainly, Mignola included some sly wit, but Arcudi turns BPRD into sitcom material. Sitcoms are evil.
