JLA #104
Publisher: DC, Writer: Chuck Austen, Artist: Ron Garney, Price: $ 2.25 US, $ 3.50 Can
I though Wally West had grown up. But when Manhunter needs the emotional support of his teammates he tries to bail. Grow up Flash and accept your responsibilities. It was nice seeing Superman stop him and tell him to shoulder his responsibilities. This is what makes the JLA such a great team they are there physically and emotionally for each other. Chuck Austen is bringing this across nicely. Austen also shows us that Manhunter is afraid of getting close to humans. He still feels guilty over his wife, child and world's population's dying. You learn about and feel the guilt he feels. The art is so so. Nothing special about it. The cover though by Ron Garney stands out. Manhunter's glowing red eyes are the center of it. The rest adds a nice frame to them. Martian Manhunter looks good in a hat. Even if it is a silly hat.
Conan #7
Publisher: Dark Horse, Writer: Kurt Busiek, Artists: Cary Nord with Thomas Yeates, Price: $ 2.99 US
A new character Janissa is introduced she is beautiful and deadly. She is drawn moving like a cat. graceful and swift. She's a assassin for hire and she is headed Conan's way. Joseph Michael Linsner has created a intense cover showing off Conan's battle fiery and sword arm in a blur of motion. The art is somber and well suited to this type of story. The buildings are drawn so they stand out. Conan himself doesn't do a whole lot this issue. He kills two traitors and than gets ready to travel to Nemedia.
