Some comic books are so special that they completely change your entire outlook on the series as a whole even if you have extremely disliked the previous issues. So powerful that you are just stunned at their greatness.
Identity Crisis 4 was not one of those books.
It's the best issue of the mini so far, but that's only because it is completely and utterly mediocre instead of being downright bad. There are spoilers ahead, and again, I have not read any spoiler threads for future issues so my guesses are completely unfounded, I am not attempting to ruin it for anyone with what I am saying here.
So Jean didn't die. Great. Now she can go back to being a character we only see every five years. I'm SO jazzed about that, and what a cop-out. Meltzer doesn't even have the balls to kill off a second stringer's WIFE, he has to stick with the third stringers.
I'm putting my bets on Mr. Miracle being the baddie, if only because Green Arrow and every other character KNOWS and COMMENTS ON the fact that he is the one of the only heroes to have the expertise to get into homes like that and commit the murders. But they let him investigate anyways without a second glance. And now have the chance to tamper with evidence. Smart heroes.
The lasso of truth thing was a complete waste of time and effort, two pages instead of just one panel of dialogue.
As for supporting characters I know will be offed next, let's look at the possibilities.
Tim's Dad: He's a goner. The panel was just too happy with them joking around with him being Robin and the father being fine with that although Bat readers know that isn't the case.
Lois: I don't think so. Yeah right. She's been disappeared, shot and stabbed in the last year in the Superbooks, killing her off is out of the question.
What we have here is the illusion of events being meaningful when in fact in two years time they will be completely forgotten. This completely killed my high after reading Hawkman, and I cannot forgive that.
