Writer: Kurt Busiek
Artist: George Perez
Publisher: DC/Marvel
George Perez has outdone himself with this cover. A battle torn Superman stands ready to fight. His weapons Thor's hammer and Captain America's shield. You can just feel his rage coming off the page.
This is it the final issue so Captain America takes the lead of both teams. He was the natural choice even over the powerhouse Superman. Cap is a soldier and a born leader.
It was nice to watch Hal(GL) and Barry (Flash) the Silver Age originals reminiscing.
The battle to get to Krona is a long one as Avengers and JLA members fight villians of both universes. With the time fluxes the members and villians continually change. Busiek and Perez have all the members of both teams showing up and so many villians you will be hard pressed to recognize them all. Caps plan to have Barry (Flash) and Hawkeye lay low worked as they get the drop on Krona. It is nice the way Busiek is using Cap for his strategic abilities to coordinate all the combatants rather than fighting in the field.
I'm not sure why the Wasp is featured so much this issue. She is not a main player but she is always there for some unknown reason.
It is cute seeing Superman trying to pick up Thor's hammer after the battle was won. He couldn't. Its magic only allowed him to in the most desperate of times. Thor comes over and picks it up easily.
So both teams return home. All is well.
Metron it seems was the mastermind behind it all. He was using all of them. Only the Grandmaster knows the truth. Krona has now turned into a cosmic egg which will one day hatch to form a new universe. Which Metron will observe and learn from. As was Metron's goal from the beggining. So ends this cosmic adventure.
George Perez was the perfect choice as artist. His drawing of all the heroes and villians as they fought is a battle to end all battles. It is magnificantly drawn.
