Hardly a trade paperback, I know, this is an oversized double h/c with script, slipcased edition
Writer: Alan Moore
Artist: Kevin O'Neill
Publisher: DC/ABC
"Right, Kevin, here we go. Starch your collar and tighten your corset," is how the script kicks off, and Alan Moore's scripts are legendary. A quick comparison between the two hardcovers here certainly adds some weight to the adage that a picture tells a thousand words. Poor Kevin! Really! Poor Eddie Campbell when you think about it.
Extra touches to make this special: it's huge, it's heavy, the dustjackets are matt, and Kevin provides a few lovely sketches (though there really aren't that many) as well as an afterword to the script. One surprise: in most instances this wouldn't matter, but if you're going to do an Absolute Edition, and the letter columns and advertisements were all such an integral part of the entertainment (and the former were all hysterical), why on earth omit them from the back-up hardcover?
Don't worry, though, everything from the collected editions is here, and you can find several examples of both in the Writing For Comics book directly below. Besides: how much would you pay me now for my original WATCHMEN slipcased h/c with script? Quite. Cough up, folks.
