Madefire Launches Most Innovative iPhone 5 Reading Experience, Extends 5-star iPad Comics App to iPhone/iPod TouchA comics news article
Madefire, creator of the 5-star rated Madefire app for iPad today announced its new app for the iPhone and iPod touch—the only app that puts a fully immersive, episodic reading experience into pockets and purses of iOS consumers everywhere. The new app is available exclusively on iOS, free in the Apple App Store, and optimized for both the iPhone 5’s stunning, larger Retina display, as well as for iOS 6 with Facebook integration, which makes it even easier for users to share what they’re reading. The app is also available for iPhones 3GS, 4, 4S, and for 3rd and 4th generation iPod touch.
Madefire and several of its founders/creators—including Dave Gibbons (co-creator of Watchmen, recognized as one of the top 100 novels of all time)—will officially launch the new app in October at New York Comic Con (NYCC)—the largest comic and graphic novel convention on the East coast, and the second largest in the U.S. Gibbons’ all new, original series “Treatment” is available exclusively on Madefire, where it is being extended to multiple titles and released in continuous episodes.
“Feedback about Madefire has been extraordinary,” said Dave Gibbons. “Mobile devices are our constant companions—so it makes sense that people crave a reading experience created not for print, but specifically for digital.”
With more than 85 million iPhones sold in the U.S. since 2007, and the recent release of the much anticipated 5 model, extending the Madefire app to iPhone/iPod touch was a natural evolution for the indie storytelling and digital publishing company which, like Apple, is passionate about creating an unrivaled user experience.
“In June we launched for iPad because of the bigger screen size,” explained Madefire Co-founder Ben Wolstenholme, “but in our recent development, we have been stunned by reading Madefire on the iPhone, especially now with the new iPhone 5’s larger Retina screen—it might even be more exciting!”
The new app stays true to Madefire’s distinctive format, which features episodic, “short-burst” (10-15 minute) reading, and utilizes sound, music and motion, as well as special effects unavailable in other storytelling apps—like parallax and panorama—to transport readers deep into story worlds. Now, with the extension of Madefire into more ubiquitous mobile devices, its growing catalogue of free titles, and weekly releases of new episodes, readers have even more reasons and opportunities to explore “short-burst” reading. The new app also includes the addition of a “Feed” feature, which gives readers an inside look into Madefire titles and creators, with special features such as “the making of” posts and sneak-peeks of upcoming releases.
The Madefire app for iPhone/iPod touch is being released with seven titles, previously available only on the iPad app:
Additional titles and episodes are slated to release simultaneously on all three devices throughout the fall.
Madefire is the only publisher offering episodic, digital stories in the immersive Motion Books format. Content creators include world-renowned comic and graphic novel artists, as well as up-and-coming artists. As part of Madefire’s commitment to democratizing digital publishing within the visual storytelling space, the company is making its browser-based Motion Book Tool—on which all Madefire titles are built—available to creators through a phased release.
The Madefire app for iPhone/iPod touch is free in the App Store.
