A short while ago our comic and graphic novel publishing firm Com.x was approached by Ross Mackintosh, a writer/illustrator, who was working on his first book, entitled Seeds. Seeds is the autobiographical story of how he and his family were affected by his father's cancer; beginning with the diagnosis, then taking us through the journey of his father's decline. Ordinarily this type of book is outside the scope of what we would normally publish, but we were profoundly touched by Ross' storytelling and felt we had to release his book.
Seeds is in the February Diamond catalogue for an April on-sale date. Diamond ordering info is: FEB110891 F SEEDS GN A portion of the book’s proceeds will be going to selected cancer charities in both the US and UK.
I know its a bit different than what Com.x is normally known for but cancer has affected almost everyone in some way or another - our company’s inner circle included - which is what influenced our decision to publish Ross' book (due to be released April 2011). Whilst we can't be sure what the demand will be for such a title, know that at the very least it deserves an audience. We also hope that such a book might provide some modicum of comfort and support to others touched by this tragic disease.
Here are a few sample pages from the book:
