Steve Bissette Added to The Portsmouth Comic Book Show & Writers Festival Guest List

Legendary Artist for Alan Moore’s run on Swamp Thing joins the November 16th guest list.

Just announced, The Portsmouth Comic Show and Writers Festival adds classic artist , and small press supporter, Steve Bissette to their line-up of guests for the November 16th show in Portsmouth , NH . Steve’s most recent work includes a collaboration with show’s special guest, Christopher Golden on the book, Prince of Stories: The Many Worlds of Neil Gaiman.

Fans and collectors will best remember Steve for his work on the “Saga of the Swamp Thing” with “Watchmen” writer ALAN MOORE. Bissette is currently a faculty member of Vermont ’s acclaimed school, The Center for Cartoon Studies.

“New England has an abundance of talented top name creators but few in the caliber of Steve Bissette”, said show’s promoter, Ralph DiBernardo. “Steve’s work on Swamp Thing was amazing, and with it being some of Alan Moore’s earliest U.S. work, it is one of the most memorable Swamp Thing runs. While Steve has been out of the Main-Stream comic illustrating world for some time, his work will live on forever”.

The growing Portsmouth Comic Book Show guest list includes featured guests Joe Hill, David Petersen, Christopher Golden, Craig Rouseau, Scott Wegener, Ron Fortier and Jay Piscopo; local favorites, Severed Head Comics Publishing, Rich Woodall, Matt Talbot, Jennifer Omand and The Fatsquad. Small press and up and coming creators include Joe Casey, Jolly Rogue Studios, Greg Moutafis, Barry Corbett, Bob Raymond, Larry Young, Joe Haley and more to be announced soon.

Stephen R. Bissette won many industry awards in his quarter-century in comics as a cartoonist, writer, editor and publisher. A pioneer graduate of the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon & Graphic Art, he is best-known for Saga of the Swamp Thing, Taboo, '1963,' Tyrant, co-creating John Constantine, and creating the world's second '24- Hour Comic,' invented by Scott McCloud as a challenge for Bissette. His comics efforts fueled many films, (CONSTANTINE, FROM HELL, TMNT II: SECRET OF THE OOZE, etc.) and he and his son Daniel created the comic that appears in the award-winning indy feature HEAD TRAUMA. He illustrates books and has authored fiction (including the Stoker Award-winning novella Aliens: Tribes) and non-fiction (co-authoring Comic Book Rebels, The Monster Book: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and solo articles/essays for film books, magazines and his own book series Green Mountain Cinema). His previous work in education includes lecturing at Yale, Dartmouth College, Duquesne University, Smith College, Marlboro College, etc., and Middlebury College's Breadloaf Young Writers Workshop. His papers reside in the Special Collections of HUIE Library at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia , Arkansas.

The Portsmouth Comic Book Show and Writers Festival is being held at The Best Western Wynwood Hotel, on the Portsmouth Traffic Circle in Portsmouth , NH . The show will start at 9:30 am for Educators and early entry, and from 10 am to 3 pm for the general public.
