The Toronto Public Library and The Beguiling specialty bookstore are proud to present FREE COMICS FOR KIDS DAY, THIS SATURDAY MAY 3RD, at The Palmerston Library in The Annex. Just as the title implies, The Beguiling will be teaming with TPL and event sponsors Owl Magazine and will be giving away free comics all day to kids of all ages, including copies of Owl and Chickadee magazine, Shonen Jump and The Simpsons comics, and many more!
FREE COMICS FOR KIDS DAY is a part of the international literacy event “Free Comic Book Day,” an event designed to promote comic books and literacy amongst readers of all ages. The Beguiling has chosen to focus their event on young readers as a sign of their commitment to diversity within the comics industry. “We’ve been working with the Toronto Public Library for years to develop a strong collection of comics, manga, and graphic novels for young readers in the library system,” said Beguiling manager Christopher Butcher. “We couldn’t be happier to be partnering with TPL and Owl to get kids hooked on reading—and reading comics especially—at this fantastic event.”
FREE COMICS FOR KIDS DAY also serves as the official book launch for three fantastic new books intended for readers of all ages:
- MAX FINDER MYSTERY VOL 3, by Liam O’Donnell and Michael Cho.
- YOU CRACK ME UP, by Steven Manale and Jay Stephens
- ME HUNGRY, by Jeremy Tankard
All the above authors will be reading from their work at presentations beginning at 1pm and 3pm, in The Palmerston Library Auditorium, and their books will be available for purchase and signing at Saturday's event. A full afternoon of activities are planned including crafts and activities sponsored The Burrow Art Centre for Kids! And of course, all of this will be supplemented by the thousands of free comic books and Owl Magazines that will be given away.
So bring the whole family to The Palmerston Library this Saturday (just North of Bloor St. on Palmerston, and just West of Bathurst Subway Station) so your kids can experience their first-ever FREE COMIC BOOK DAY! And if you’ve got older kids in tow (or are a graphic novel fan yourself), The Beguiling will be holding a Free Comic Book Day event in-store for teenagers and grown-ups.
