There is not much the average person can do about the situation in Tibet . You can show your solidarity by using the Tibetan flag as your message board icon. You can boycott products “Made in China .”
German writer Jens Altmann goes one step farther. He has decided to donate the royalties of his fantasy novel RETURN OF THE RAVAGER to the Tibetan cause.
“It’s a largely symbolic act,” he explains. “Even if RETURN OF THE RAVAGER were a bestseller, which it isn’t, the royalties wouldn’t make a noticeable difference for the Tibetans. But I felt I had to do something. Unfortunately, I’m not famous. I’m not influential. I don’t have the money to buy a huge lot of certain real estate from the Chinese and give it to the Tibetans. And my Green Lantern ring isn’t working this week.”
He says he chose the fantasy novel for two reasons: one, it is a heroic fantasy, whose heroes would probably come to the beleaguered ethnic group’s rescue. “Not that they would succeed, but they would at least try.” The other reason is that of his three published novels, RETURN OF THE RAVAGER is internationally the most easily available. “The other two are in German. One is out of print, the other was published by a small press. RETURN OF THE RAVAGER is in English, and available on Amazon.”
Altmann plans to do his homework. “I thought of just handing the royalties checks over at the local Buddhist temple, but that wouldn’t be efficient. Instead, I will find another reputable Tibetan organization, and instruct my publisher to make RAVAGER’s future royalties checks out to that organization.”
The writer has shown his care for the Tibetan cause before, when he signed up to sponsor a Buddhist monastery in Tashi Dargye.
“I’d be happy if you would help me help the Tibetans,” Jens Altmann said in closing. “But if you feel that your 20 bucks would be more useful if you donate them directly, instead of buying a fantasy novel and have only some of that money go to help the cause, go ahead and donate the money directly, with my blessings and thanks.”
RETURN OF THE RAVAGER has the ISBN 978-1424134465.
