CHECKER BPG's "WINSOR MCCAY: EARLY WORKS" VOLUMES 7 AND 8 SCHEDULED FOR FALL 2005 PUBLICATION
Volumes to Feature Never-Before-Collected McCay Works!
Press Release
Volumes 7 and 8 of Winsor McCay: Early Works will feature a selection of never-before published works, collecting everything from one-shot strips to editorial illustrations. These strips, from earlier in McCay's career, show him experimenting with different styles of cartooning, including the last-panel repetition that he used extensively in Dream of the Rarebit Fiend and Little Nemo in Slumberland. These volumes will also contain chapters collecting Dream of the Rarebit Fiend, A Pilgrim's Progress, and his spectacular New York American editorial illustrations. Both volumes are $19.95, 200 pages, and with black and white illustrations (Vol 7 ISBN 1-933160-05-5 / Vol 8 ISBN 1-933160-06-3).
Winsor McCay is known both as the father of animation and as an innovator of comic strips. Using his in-depth knowledge of visual perspective, he created daily comic strips and editorial illustrations that were unlike any other in their time - his unique manipulation of the comic art form, along with his unorthodox subject matter, has made him one of the most influential creators in comic strip history. In this collected "Early Works" series published by Checker, an effort is being made to collect some of the vast amounts of illustrations McCay created in his lifetime to preserve them for future generations.
