A Distant Soil #37 is sold out and no longer available from Image Comics.

The long-running science/fantasy series written and illustrated by Colleen Doran is nearing its completion with approximately eight issues left to tell the tale.

When a fifteen-year-old child learns that she is an Avatar, capable of drawing on the collective psionic force of all beings on her homeworld, she also discovers that she is under an assassination order as her very existence threatens the political stability of the Hierarchy of her father's home planet.

The story has received praise from the Young American Library Association and is often listed among the best graphic novels for young adults.

Colleen Doran will be releasing the fourth A Distant Soil graphic novel from Image, Coda, in 2005 and is currently also illustrating a new graphic novel written by Warren Ellis, entitled Stealth Tribes, which will also appear in 2005 from Vertigo.

Limited inventories of other back issues remain in stock, as well as all three editions of the graphic novels, A Distant Soil: The Gathering, A Distant Soil: The Ascendant, and A Distant Soil: The Aria.

The project was begun when Colleen Doran was twelve years old and saw print at several publishers before she decided to self publish her tale. She eventually moved to Image comics where she has been since 1996. Colleen has illustrated numerous projects for a variety of publishers and counts among her credits last year's well-received Orbiter, as well as stints on Sandman as well as various comics for Marvel and DC.

Colleen Doran will be the subject of an upcoming biography for Rosen Publishing's Library of Graphic Novelists, which will also feature books about Joe Sacco, Neil Gaiman, Art Speigleman, Bryan Talbot and Will Eisner. The books will be distributed to middle and high schools throughout the United States.
