Chimaera Studios joins Image Comics! Brandt Preston speaks with creator George T Singley.
Brandt Preston: Before we get started, thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit down and speak with me.
George T Singley: No problem Brandt.
BP: Well let’s jump right in, shall we?
GTS: Lets.
BP: It has been mentioned on the Image Comics site that you have various projects in the works for Image. What are the names of the projects and who is working on them with you?
GTS: I have a handful of projects that are in various stages of completion for Image. I’m excited and fortunate to be working with such a talented group of artists and studio mates. The project announcements and press releases should be coming out soon, so keep your eyes and ears open.
BP: Which brings me to my next question; will your studio, Chimaera Studios, be developing projects under the Image banner with the studio name attached?
GTS: Well, yes. I have done work for Image before and will continue to do work for them, studio name attached or not. Image is a great place to be and the creative freedom that they allow is unparalleled.
BP: Tell us a little about Chimaera Studios. How did its current formation come about?
GTS: It’s pretty simple actually. I was already speaking with artists and friends who were interested in doing projects with me and vice versa, so once those projects began to take shape I started making the individual calls. I invited some creators to be a part of
Chimaera Studios and thankfully they accepted.
BP: So how does Chimaera Studios work?
GTS: Chimaera Studios is a collective studio of diverse creators. Each creator is free to work on projects within the studio or for other companies. For example, if Chimaera Studio creators are working exclusively on a project together and it is published by Image that is a Chimaera Studios project. If a Chimaera Studios creator is doing freelance work for Image, Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, etc. we will promote the project on our site for that creator, but it is obviously not a Chimaera Studios project. There are exceptions to the rules of course, depending on the situation and what creators want.
BP: What creators and artists make up the Chimaera Studios family?
GTS: Well besides me, a talented group of creators like Ethen Beavers, Trevor McCarthy, Freddie E Williams II, Mark Winters, Joe Abraham, Jason Meek, and Steve Dutro. There are a couple of other creators that are interested and we are talking, so we’ll see how that goes.
BP: What projects have these Chimaera Studios creators worked on before?
GTS: Ethen Beavers has a book coming out in August from Image with Oeming called “SIX”. It’s a fantastic piece of work so do yourself a favor and pick it up. Trevor McCarthy was the artist for DC’s “Nightwing” and has worked on various projects for Marvel, DC, Image, and Dark Horse. Freddie E Williams II is the acclaimed primary illustrator for Palladium Books. Mark Winters has illustrated “Nightmare World” and numerous other projects for various companies. Joe Abraham was the artist on “Hellhounds”. Jason Meek has also illustrated stories for “Nightmare World” and he is currently the artist on “The Imaginaries” which should be hitting store shelves this summer so pick it up, the artwork is stunning. Steve Dutro has been one of the most prolific letterers for well over a decade. His body of work includes flagship titles like Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Thor, and Superman as well as various works for Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, and Viz Comics. All these guys have done more than I have mentioned, I’m just giving you the abridged version.
BP: So tell us what Chimaera Studios projects you are working on. Release dates? Any details?
GTS: As I said before-I am working on various projects and some of them it would just be premature to announce. However, I will tell you that the first Chimaera Studios project is “SHOCKING GUN TALES” and is solicited for an October release, followed by “WARGOD” which is solicited for a November release, both published by Image Comics.
BP: What Chimaera Studios creators are involved with you in these projects?
GTS: There are various artists involved with “SHOCKING GUN TALES” which is making it a lot of fun to work on. “WARGOD” is illustrated by Freddie E Williams II and he is doing some really remarkable work on the book.
BP: Thank you for announcing those titles. Will you keep us posted with all your new project announcements and is there anything else you would like to say before the interview draws to a close?
GTS: Sure. Everyone can keep up to date with Chimaera Studios projects, creators, and info by visiting the studio site at www.chimaerastudios.com. There will also be announcements on Imagecomics.com and the Image message boards.
BP: Thank you George.
GTS: Anytime.
