Ken Watanabe To Play Ra's Al Ghul In New Batman Film

Oscar nominated actor Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai) will play the villainous mastermind Ra's Al Ghul in Warner Brothers. upcoming Batman movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Watanabe joins a star-packed cast which includes Christian Bale (Equilibrium) as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Michael Caine (Secondhand Lions) as Wayne's trusted butler Alfred, Katie Holmes (The Gift) as a childhood friend of Wayne's, Liam Neeson (Star Wars: The Phantom Menace) as Wayne's mentor Henri Ducard and Morgan Freeman as former Wayne Enterprises employee Lucius Fox.

Christopher Nolan (Insomnia) is directing the film, which will be produced by Emma Thomas, Charles Roven and Larry Franco. The script was written by David Goyer (Blade 3) and Nolan.

Production is set to begin next month in London.
