On June 7, 2003, at the annual Bram Stoker Award Dinner in New York City, horror author and comic book scripter Robert Weinberg was named Stoker Award winner for his script for Nightside 1-4 (published in 2001-2002 by Marvel Comics). The story was a nominee in the Graphic Novel/Illustrated Narrative Category. It was the second nomination in that category for Weinberg in the past three years, with his Cable story, "The Undying" a nominee for the 2000 award. Previous winners in the category include Neil Gaiman and Alan Moore.
The Horror Writers Association, with over 1,000 members, is one of the largest professional writers' groups in the world. Notable writers belonging to the organization include Clive Barker, Stephen King, Joyce Carol Oates, John Carpenter, Ramsey Campbell, Dean Koontz, David Morrell, and many others.
This is the second Stoker Award for Weinberg, who won as Best Editor in 1999 for his anthology, Horrors, 365 Scary Stories. He's also won two World Fantasy Awards as well as two Awards from the Society of Technical Writers. Other honors he's received include The First Fandom Collector's Award and the Lamont Award.
