Outnumbering the nominations for any other major publisher's work in 2001, CrossGeneration Comics' staffers received 15 Harvey Award nominations in nine categories for this year's awards announced Thursday.

Of the total awards categories, CrossGen was eligible for only 12 and nominated for nine, with multiple nominations in five of those categories.

CrossGen received more nominations than any of its major competitors, Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Dark Horse Comics, or Image Comics.

Named after the late cartooning genius Harvey Kurtzman and founded in 1988, the Harveys are one of the industry's oldest and most respected awards. The nominee list (based on comics publications which shipped during the calendar year 2001) has been compiled by tallying nominating votes from ballots mailed to over 2,000 industry writers, artists, editors, and other professionals involved in the creative aspects of the comics industry.

Harvey Award winners will also be selected by comics' creative community through a Final Ballot. The Harveys are the only industry awards where both the nominees and winners are selected by the entire body of comic book professionals.

"Congratulations are in order for all the creators nominated for this year's awards," said CrossGen Publisher and CEO Mark Alessi. "I'm very proud to have our creators' names appear next to the other nominees, as it is very prestigious company to be associated with. I've believed for more than two years that we had some of the best talent in the industry. What's more gratifying than simply having some nominations in our camp is to see the depth and scope of those nominations, across every spectrum of the comic book creation process that we represent - writing, penciling, inking, coloring, lettering and even the development of new talent. Seeing such a strong cross-section of our entire team represented helps reinforce what we've always felt, that a strong team effort helps the whole transcend simply being the sum of its parts. A good team effort elevates everyone's individual efforts, and that's what helps us make good comics."

The categories and nominees from CrossGen are:

Ron Marz, Scion
