WLG #196: Ex-Hero Corps!

So I was reading through my stack o'comics last week and I was hit by a couple of thoughts.

First was this: how in the heck does Judd Winick keep Green Arrow so good? I LOVE the interactions between the members of the team, and yes, the bit with Black Canary and why he didn't chase after her just felt so real.

I don't think that I could love this book anymore.

Which, of course, helps explain why the book is ending with #75. I had heard that something else was replacing the book, but I don't recall what (readers, anyone out there remember?).

The other thought that I had was that even though it has been a VERY slow burn I caught myself thoroughly enjoying Green Lantern Corps the other day. It has taken a while, no question, but I am really starting to like that book. I don't know what it is exactly, but I think I'm babbled on before at length that something about the entire concept of the corps just does it for me.

I'm easily sated, apparently.

Yep, my money. That's good, because it helps to maintain my objectivity. If I spend money on a comic book and it turns out to be crap I'm going to be upset.Are there any books out there that are getting you going more than they have in the past? Oh, and one other thing: I am SO geeked about next week's finale of Heroes. Will NYC actually blow up?

Honestly, I don't know, and I think that's why I love the show so much.

OK, enough of that; let's take a look at this week's releases and select What Looks Good...

ALL STAR BATMAN AND ROBIN THE BOY WONDER #5 $2.99 (Frank Miller / Jim Lee)

Yes, this book is WAY late (though still not quite as late as issues of Wildcats or The Authority, but who's keeping track of that anyway [reminder to self: this column is supposed to be POSITIVE in tone]) and in theory I should be upset enough to boycott this book.

But then again, it IS Frank Miller writing Batman, which means that yes, all of us fanboys and girls will be rushing to our respective local comic book shops come Wednesday to pick up this (almost annual) book. I mean, Miller's name alone is reason for us to froth at the mouth, but we're looking at Jim Lee's pencils as well.

It's almost too much for a fanboy to take.

Now, if I could only remember what the story was after all this time I would be all set.

EX MACHINA #28 (MR) $2.99 (Brian K. Vaughan / Tony Harris)

Who is this stranger that has shown up looking for Mayor Hundred? Personally, I think it is Mayor Hundred from the future, but I could be wrong, but like I said, that is MY guess.

Of course, the fact that the Mayor Hundred of present day has seemed to have lost his powers makes it unlikely, but only if those powers remain gone.

The not knowing whets my fanboy appetite.

Such a good book...

ULTIMATES 2 #13 $3.99 (Mark Millar / Bryan Hitch)

Really I just wanted to say BRAVO to this entire creative team. They've created an awesome book and really set the bar car. I know that volume three is just around the corner, but volumes one and two are so powerful, so amazing that, well, let's just say that I am glad that I don't have to follow that act up.

Good job to everyone; this booked rocked our socks off!
