Default Doctor Who #4 Annotations

The 800 Year Old Diary

Venusian Karate--The Doctor is a deft martial artist. Whether he actually learned the forms of defense from Venusians is debatable. Although Venus is devoid of life at the moment, the Doctor could have met Venusians in the far future or in the distant past. The Doctor first refers to his abilities as "Venusian Karate" in the television episode "Inferno." Later in the series, he calls the technique "Venusian Aikido." Karate and Aikido are very different forms of martial arts. This lends more credence to the idea that the Doctor simply knows many applications, earthbound and alien. He may have been joking when christening his battle prowess. The Doctor has infrequently used martial arts in all of his incarnations. Notable examples can be found in "Seeds of Doom," "The Visitation," "Attack of the Cybermen" and "Bad Wolf."

Ogron Weak Spot--Revealed in the episode "Day of the Daleks."

Stellan Galaxy--The Milky Way

Rutans--Shape-shifting mollusks that are waging an endless war against the Sontarans. First mentioned in "Time Warrior" and later seen in "Horror at Fang Rock."

Clockwork Mouse--A toy mouse the Doctor uses as a distraction. Last seen in "The Doctor's Daughter."

Gun Use--The Doctor is no saint. The fourth Doctor in "The Seeds of Doom" threatens Harrison Chase and his pet mercenary Scorby with an automatic pistol. The fifth Doctor pointed a gun at Davros and promised to execute him in "Resurrection of the Daleks." The lunatic knew that this was no idle threat. The eighth Doctor in a hilarious moment took himself hostage with a police officer's gun. During the conversation, the Doctor points the pistol at the hapless officer, but his finger never nears the trigger. The ninth Doctor seems ready to blast a Dalek apart, but the tenth Doctor appears to eschew firearms altogether. That doesn't stop him from killing creatures of all shapes and sizes, including evil humans. The Doctor has not and never will be a pacifist.

Malapropism--The seventh Doctor was rather famous for such muffed sayings as "Time and Tide Melt the Snowman." The tenth Doctor appears to have picked up the bad habit.

"Must Dash"--Last heard from the Fifth Doctor as he uses the Time Lord Transmat Beam in "The Five Doctors."

"Little Boys With Big Toys"--a line made famous by underrated and gorgeous of Bond Girl Natalya Simonova (Izabella Scorupco) from Goldeneye.

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops...I have no idea where that came from."--from Han Solo in Star Wars actually.
