See, on this I would disagree. Just like with Sinestro Corps War, the main villain in this Green Lantern crossover is nowhere to be found during most of the events so far. We saw Hand dig up Bruce Wayne's body in the first issue and then hide in the corner playing with the skull as he talks to a voice. Other than that we've seen nada story wise.

Bendis does this too, which makes me think the two of them sit around at cons and talk about this stuff while taking shots, but Johns has a tendency to bring in too many villains in his recent work making it hard to use them all effectively. During SCW, I climbed whatever virtual tower I could find and shout at the top of my lungs how GJ was wasting all the cool villains he had garnered because they sat around doing nothing.

I wouldn't be surprised if Superboy-Prime comes back out of nowhere to put on a black outfit and ask if he can be emo in the corner with a black costume on just so Geoff can use him yet again in a crossover. Something dumb will happen in the end where Nekron is destroyed by all the rings coming together to sing Kum Bai Yah, which will reduce William Hand to that wierd kid who shows up to the 10-year-reunion hoping someone will remember him but nobody does.

I actually think we're pretty close on this one. I just didn't explain myself very well. I thought the initial appearances of Black Hand were kind of cool and made me actually interested in him. And then, as you say, he gnashed his teeth and disappeared. And now we have Nekron who seems to be the real big bad. The old bait and switch.

I had the same feeling about Libra in Final Crisis -- and I actually lilked Final Crisis after the third read. And, yeah Chris, Bendis does pull that all the time, too.

Oh Terry, since you're new...I know I sound like a GJ hater, but from the three years I've been on staff here I've been consistent about one thing: I expect more from Geoff Johns because I know he can do better from his stories. He may not always do what I would have done with characters, but other than not knowing astrology for shit he's a fairly sound writer. Since he has the keys to the DC Bus right now, I have to ride him from time to time because as a DC fan I want more from my stories.

I've been reading comics over the last eight years or so after a very long absence. (Yeah, I am an old dude.) I completley missed Johns' Flash run -- but I hear it was pretty good. I read Infinite Crisis, which didn't do much for me, 52, his Green Lantern run since Rebirth and his Braniac story in Superman. All in all, I would say he is very good at characterization, revisioning characters and finding new ways to explore continuity. Maybe not so good at moving the stories forward, though.
