The worst thing about Devilchild III is that bloody cliffhanger so I've got to wait another bloody year to find out what happens. Arrrrrrg. And there's none of the short-stories that was in Volumes I and II, which is a pity- Sully's Skeleton Army was pure class. Andy Winter's doing a new comic made up entirely of such stories though, so that's good.
- Recommended small-press titles? Once again, I say the Twelve (based on the labours of Herakles) and Pirates anthology titles from the Accent UK folks, and there's Commercial Suicide. Which is incredibly funny, but with stories like featuring, and I quote, "Sigmund Freud in S&M gear fighting international terrorism with only radical psychoanalysis" you can see where their name comes from. But it has a Buffy piss-take where a typo in the prophecies has resulted in the vampire-fighting Blondie the Brick Layer (with her mentor Giles- the Gaffer), so that's all good. There's also Nabiel Kanan's mini-series The Drowners (which, despite his un-updated website, was completed w/ issue 4 last year) and his graphic-novel The Birthday Riots, with politics, drama, staying true to your causes & word and a lovely big riot at the end. There's also a really disturbing little one-shot called Attic I bought a few years ago. It starts off with mutilated dolls and psychologically screwed-up people, and then just gets nastier. I loved it. Picked it up from Sweatdrop, a site that sells small-press British-original manga. Not much besides Attic that I'm interested in, but it's a good idea and seems to work for the creators. That enough recommendations for you? ![]()

Oh yeah, there's also Futurequake.
And a new issue of BAM coming out with a Inspector Danish story and, according to the BAMblog, "a multi-national corporation taking over the franchise of governing Britain". (Gee, I wonder what that's a comment on...) And though he is across the pond and might not count, Stan Yan's Wang: The Big One tpb and its On-Campus Crusader predecessor comics are good for a laugh.

Thanks for your lovely review Regie. It's been a good couple of days for Devilchild as we had a very nice review over at aintitcool.com, too http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=20859#17
The aim is to get the final Devilchild volume ("Deus") ready in time for next year's Brighton Expo. There will be new non Devilchild-related stuff from Moonface Press at both Brighton 2005 and Bristol 2006. The first of these is SHRIEK!, a US format anthology title featuring three stories, one of which Tim Skinner, Total Wanker is illustrated by Natalie Sandells (pencils) and Adrian Bamforth (inks). Following that will be half-a-dozen one-shot US format comics in a variety of genres there are a couple of offbeat superhero stories, a vampire detective tale, a football (soccer) story and two others that are barely past the planning stage yet. Just thought I'd give you an update. Andy |

Andy! Thanks for that! I like the sound of everything you just mentioned, so keep me informed. Hell, I'm even intruged by the footie story, and I hate footie. Somehow I always liked Roy of the Rovers though.
Speaking of which - there's a programme on Radio 4 one morning next week about Alf Tupper, the Tough of the Track. Can't remember what day, but a quick peruse of the Radio Times should sort that out. |

Is Shriek! an ongoing anthology or one-shot?
