MIKE PELLERITO, was recently named the new Managing Editor of Archie Comics. In addition to looking over the Archie universe he also editΓs some of Archie Comics most popular titles,

This column came about after having very few avenues to promote and find out about All Ages and Younger Reader Comics and Graphic Novels. Most knowledge seems to be passed along by word of mouth, so this is in the sprit the column is written. Now, sit back and join in the conversation!

WHAT TO GIVE?

We are heading into a prime gift-giving season. Seemed as good a time as any to mention a few ideas that might make a long time comic reader or even a new comic reader very happy this year. The most difficult part of buying something for a comic book reader is getting them something they do not have already. This week lets go over some choices that would be much appreciated, and ways to avoid getting someone some comics that they already have.

Finding what to get someone especially with such an array of different comics available is never a simple task. Two good tips if you are buying for someone who has every comic, first - take a peak. Most serious comic readers are collectors and usually have things nicely organized on a shelf(s) somewhere.

Second know that most comic shops do not take returns, because they themselves cannot return the merchandise to distributors. Most can work something out with you if you mention these are gifts. This might turn some people off but most stores have a staff with more knowledge about what to read in the comic and Graphic Novel world than you can imagine. If the person you are buying for like, say Archie Comics, they can recommend several great things from Archie and other publishers that put out similar material.

To find a comic shop nearby, you can access the Comic Shop Locator Service by calling toll free:

Ok, here are a few categories and a few of the best selection for each:

THE MOST FUN I’VE HAD READING IN A WHILE:
One of the biggest things to come around in a while was the collected edition of Bone. I picked up the complete volume one. One giant black & white book with all the stories. It was one of those reads that you couldn’t wait for the next free moment to get back to it. They recently have been releasing smaller color volumes, and the color is gorgeous. To be honest I will be picking them up to reread the story.
