Tricks And Treats!
So what are you going to get dressed up as this year? A cowboy? A princess? Bum? You're favorite comic book character? Maybe a baseball player? Are you giving out candy? Are you the person who gives out pennies? If you are do you know what the kids are going to do to you house? Going to give out candy and rot kids teeth? Maybe you can give out comics and just rot their mind
Usually I try to be a Cowboy or a pirate or a bum, well I'm a bum usually but try to dress the part for the holiday. Basically a costume that allows no shaving for a week is a winner. And of course at Archie we can always bring comics home to hand out instead of candy. Besides a little shameless self-promotion never hurts. As Dad, a former Garbage Man used to say as he through garbage out the car window: "A little job security never hurt."
First off, this week the column is a little scattered brained with so many things going on it happens even the best of us. So, apologies all around. Anyway, welcome back for another weekly Tuesday installment for all things All Ages. It has been a brutal few weeks with deadlines and projects piling up. Just sent off everything that has to go to the printer. The new Sonic X, Sonic The Hedgehog, Katy Keene in Archie & Friends, Sabrina issues as well as the 2 new Sonic Archives collecting the first 8 issue in 2 volumes and of course the new Sabrina The Teenage Witch collecting the extremely popular first four issues of it's current manga look. October is major month for publishing, especially for All Ages comics. Just about every Archie title has some sort of tie in, even Sonic X, which incidentally is issue #13. How cool is that? Wasn't even planned. As these projects come out expect a little cool behind the scenes stuff you might not of heard before. Everything on how the extremely cool Sonic X cover #13 came about and how Sabrina writer/artist first got hired at Archie. Plus, a quick review on all the Archie Halloween themed issues for the month will be coming up. All in all it should be a good month for comics and a busy one for this column.
This past weekend was just as busy, with the annual Burke Rehabilitation Wheelchair Games in White Plains, NY. This has been an annual event for me for the past several years and for Burke a lot longer. It is something really great to be involved with and really a yearly highlight. Even better than last Wednesdays awesome left filed tickets to the Yankees 16-5 shellacking of the Orioles. Sorry, for the tangent but we are going into the post-season.
Anyway, you have all these competitors from kids to adults to some seniors just going at it. From slalom courses, to track and filed stuff even table tennis. And the huge beautiful grounds of Burke are jumping filled with people, volunteers, and workers from Burke coming in on their day off to cheer for all the competitors. Not to mention Local and NYC TV news, newspapers, radio stations blasting music signing autographs. Even former Yankee and current Washington Nationals first baseman, who is at Burke for a recent injury was there and was really cool just hanging out with the kids signing autographs.
If you ever are in the area it is free to watch and volunteering is extremely rewarding, and not because of the free shirt. And if you can compete what is better than free Archie Comics? Oh, and there are raffles, tons of free food for all involved, and trophies. If you want to get involved checkout Burke to get set up for next year: Burke.org
Talking about giveaways, Halloween is fast approaching it might be a good time to remind comic readers everywhere that you can buy Archie's annual Halloween ash can to hand out instead of candy. Here's the press release:
This Halloween give comics instead of candy. This October as in years past, Archie is offering bundles of 25 ashcan comics to be given out as Halloween treats.

ARCHIE COMICS HALLOWEEN ASHCAN
Betty and Nancy get part-time jobs at a local costume shop, but when a big order falls through, they may be out of a job... and out of luck! But when Chuck drops by the shop with bad news about his failed comic book submission, his forgotten portfolio -- filled with superhero costume designs -- may just save the day for the girls, Mr. Pansky's Costume Shop, and Halloween! Sold in bundles of 25 and shipped weeks before Halloween, this 16-page mini-comic will add some fun to any trick-or-treater's rounds, introducing them to the Archie gang and their timeless teen exploits!
Script: George Gladir
Pencils: Stan Goldberg
Inking: Al Milgrom
Lettering: Jack Morelli
Color: Barry Grossman
If you would like a bundle please contact your local comic shop at

or call (888)COMIC BOOK / (888) 266-4226
If you have no luck with your comic shop, drop me an email and I will see what I can do.
It is well worth it and the price is right. And if you're someone who eats as much candy as you give out, this could save you a fortune in dentist bills. Which of course leaves more money for comics!
See ya, next Tuesday as the Halloween reviews begin!
As always thanks for reading, and feel free to send your comments and recommendations to: MikeP@SilverBulletComicbooks.com
